LOOM
Weaving live data into a public installation.

Context
LOOM is a permanent installation in the atrium of a textile museum, commissioned to connect the building’s heritage with the city outside.
Challenge
The museum wanted a living work rather than a screen playing a video — something that would change every day without staff intervention.
Thinking
Weaving is information: warp and weft, pattern and rule. We asked what the city would look like if its daily rhythms were woven like cloth.
Direction
A generative system that translates open civic data — weather, transit and footfall — into woven patterns rendered across a large-format light wall.
Making
We built the data pipeline, the generative pattern engine, a content-safe fallback mode and an operator console for the museum team.
System
Each day produces a unique “textile” that is archived and printable, turning the installation into a growing collection the museum can exhibit and share.
Outcome
The installation runs unattended, and its daily archive has become part of the museum’s education programme on pattern and craft.
Reflection
Creative technology succeeds when the technology disappears. Visitors talk about the patterns, not the software — which is exactly right.
